Shipping Weight and Size Limits

UPS has established specific weight and size limits for the packages sent through our small package delivery network. Criteria for Additional Handling, Large Package, and Over Maximum packages are below.

Additional Handling

Additional Handling charges occur when shipments exceed criteria stated in our UPS Terms and Conditions of Service/Carriage. Those criteria include:

  • A package with the longest side exceeding 48 inches or second-longest side exceeding 30 inches
  • A shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 50 pounds or packages over 50 pounds
  • A package that is not fully encased in corrugated cardboard. Any cylindrical-like item, such as a barrel, drum, pail or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container

  • For international shipments, a package is considered a "Large Package" when its length (longest side of the package) plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches
  • Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (40 kgs)
  • An Additional Handling charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied

Over Maximum Size

Note: UPS eFulfillment does not accept Over Maximum Size packages

The limits below only pertain to individual packages. There are no limits to the total weight of your shipment or the total number of packages in your shipment.

  • Packages can be up to 150 pounds
  • Packages can be up to 165 inches in length and girth combined
(when its length (longest side of the package) plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 165 inches.)
  • Packages can be up to 108 inches in length

If UPS eFulfillment receives items that meet the requirements for Over Maximum, they will not be accepted and you will need to schedule a work order to have the items sent back. You will be responsible for arranging return transportation, and fees for storage and handling will apply.
